Bafflement

Hey all,
I thought I'd start a new thread just for... bafflements. You know, those little problems you have with the HP series...
I thought we could all pitch in with our various suggestions and answers
I'll start, to get the ball rolling...
If a magical child of two muggles is a mudblood, and the child of a witch and a wizard is a pureblood...
What's the child of two mudbloods? Of two half-bloods? Of a mudblood and a pureblood? It's not a big thing, it's just a minor annoyance I have...
Please, if anyone has any ideas, help me out!
Or if anyone has questions of their own, feel free to post 'em

I always thought of it as:

Muggle + Muggle = Mudblood (or Muggle if non magical)
Muggle + Mudblood = Mudblood
Muggle + Half Blood = Half Blood
Muggle + Pure Blood = Half Blood
Mudblood + Mudblood = Mudblood
Mudblood + Half Blood = Half Blood
Mudblood + Pure Blood = Half Blood
Half Blood + Half Blood = Half Blood
Pure Blood + Half Blood = Half Blood
Pure Blood + Pure Blood = Pure Blood

And I guess after a certain number of generations, mudblood and half blood families become pure blood families.

I'm not sure what would happen if you were using more polite language:

Muggle Born + Muggle Born = A child of two Muggle Borns??? A half blood?

It's a tough one.

You can argue mudblood if you consider the child's parents to have non-magical blood, and hence the child has no magical blood. However, if you consider the parents to have magical blood (as they are a witch and wizard), then the child could actually be a pure blood. Also, you could argue that the child would be a half blood, because the parents although being magical weren't pure blood, and arguably only pure bloods can have pure blood offspring; so the two magic parents would have to have a half blood child.

In short, it's quite a bafflement.

I'm still a little puzzled though..... I mean, what about the child of (the child of a half-blood and a pureblood) and (the child of a half-blood and a muggleborn)? (Brackets for your convenience).
Anyways.... maybe we should ask JK Rowling

Great idea!

I'm pretty sure that a) the child of a pure blood + half blood = half blood, and b) the the child of a mud blood + half blood also = half blood. So the child of two half bloods would also be a half blood.
Can someone on Pottermore ask J.K. Rowling, perhaps?
